Hi Bernie
Just thought we’d drop you a short e-mail to let you know how our new Ranger is going. To say that we are extremely impressed would be doing the Ranger an injustice.
Ok, I’ll try not to use to many superlatives, but just a few to start with, powerful, comfortable, a pleasure to drive, economical, and in my opinion the perfect tow vehicle.
We have just clocked up 10k, 6000 towing our 3+ ton caravan and approximately 300kg in the back. We left Ballarat and travelled through to East Gippsland, then over the great divide to Canberra. We headed further north crossing the Great Divide a couple of more times to the Gold Coast. This is where the Ranger showed it’s ability to tow the caravan up steep hills and winding roads.
Now for the open outback roads. This is where I really feel in love with the Ranger. The rest of the journey to the Northern Territory was long hours behind the wheel a couple of days were in excess of 12 hours in 43c temperatures, the Rangers temperature gauge never moved past it’s normal position. The adaptive cruise made the long hours behind the wheel a pleasure. What amazed us was that we could put the car in 6th gear and it would tow the van up and down hills without loosing any speed, unbelievable, my Nissan Patrol with the 4.8l engine would have to change back to 3rd gear to tackle the very same hills. As I said we rarely had to change gears and maintained a steady 100kph.
We attracted quite a lot of attention from 50 metre long Road Train Drivers as we blew past them. At one time I had two of them asking me a lot of questions on the CB about the Ranger and were very impressed.
Overall we averaged 14.8 per 100 on the Great Divide section of out journey. On the hot outback section of the trip it dropped to 13.7 per 100k’s. Remember this was towing the Caravan.
I love the Ranger, it has exceeded all my expectations.
Bernie could you do me a favour and find out how long a woman's tether is. Due to the new love in my life Jenni said that she’s nearly reached the end of hers.
Seriously, thankyou mate we definitely made the right decision in buying the Ranger.
